How to Take Charge of Your Hesitation Once and For All
My expression is almost identical to the guy above me as a result of being a big hesitator that I am.
A little quick story
Over the past few months, I’ve developed an unconditional dislike in the former name of this website (once called Self Exceed.com).
I told myself before that I needed to change the domain name. It just wasn’t working for me—it didn’t click like it used to anymore.
Like the all mighty hesitator that I am, I said, “Eh, too much of a hassle. Maybe I’ll like the name again someday.”
Few months go by, and that someday never came by. A very sad day indeed.
So with these past few weeks, I came to the conclusion that a rebrand was needed to be made now. There was no later.
Well I finally did it.
I finally changed the domain name.
*Wipes sweat off of forehead*
Are you in the same position like me?
You’re on the edge of the cliff, making a decision, but you just can’t seem to do it.
Please, allow me to give you a push. (Ironically speaking of course.)
The real truth is…
You need to quit the “if’s, and’s, or but’s”.
The “If’s, and’s, or but’s” are what held me back, and it’s holding you back.
Make up your mind, and just do it like you’ve just decided that it’s going to happen.
(Results may vary)
You might want to do the following:
- Leave old friends behind
- Move far, far away
- Start on your homework
- Quit your awful job
- End your relationship
- Change the way you look
- Some bizarre activities
But then you may think:
- “Will this be the best decision?”
- “Will I look stupid?”
- “Will I sound stupid?”
- “Maybe I’ll do it later”
- “How is this going to work?”
Here’s a suggestion that I’d like to make. Just go for it. See where it leads you to.
The real barrier with hesitation is that your doubts prevent you from taking any actions. My doubts definitely took a big hit out of me. As a result, nothing was done.
So how can you make this process any easier, if possible?
Quit worrying about what others think
I probably speak for 99% of the popular when I say that we hesitate in fear of what others may think. You see, people get too scared of mean things said behind their back, so they rather not act according to what they really want.
After all, I would be scared to death if a mean person called me a dummy. But then I realize that their comments doesn’t mean jack if I don’t really care.
So think about this. If you weren’t afraid of being judged, what would you really do? Finally sign up at a local gym? Go to dancing classes? Tell awful jokes? Sing to Justin Bieber?
Then there’s your answer, just do it.
You’ll feel much better getting it done rather than thinking about it or even worse… Never doing it at all.
All I’m saying is that we should care less about what others think of us. If we can do this, decisions would be easier to act upon, which leads to a happier life
So what’s next?
Speak the truth. Even if your voice shakes
A life, in which actions are taken, is better than a life in which no actions were taken.
I can’t begin to tell you times where I had to pull my undies high up my behind to fight my fears.
By no means am I telling you to act on impulse every single time. In fact, think before you do it too (but not too long, you long, philosophical thinkers).
You may be saying “I just don’t have the guts to do it!” Then as a result, life will sucks big time for you unless you do take action.
While you’re on the way to taking actions…
Quit over-emphasizing the bad
I always hear stories about people hating their job so much, but they don’t want to quit. It’s their means of living.
Really? Do you believe that life will cease to end all because of quitting a job?
Of course there are exceptions. Some people have mouths to feed, bills to pay, and other nonsense I suppose. Even then, that won’t cause…
*Says in an overemphasized tone*
I always get a kick out of it when people make it seem this way. Trust me, it’s not. I’ve done it before and these people are exaggerating big time.
If you want to know the real truth, death began when I had to go back to work.
Point here is, quit making it a bigger deal than it really is.
Get your own approval
Perhaps you want validation. Maybe you don’t want to do something until everyone thinks it’s a good idea. I’ll let you know that if you continue to wait for everyone approval, you’ll be waiting for a long time.
- When you go exercise, there is always that one person who tells you that exercising is bad for your joints or that muscles will turn into fat. (Note: muscles do not turn into fat)
- When you don’t drink beer or alcohol, there is always someone calling you a big fat pussy because getting wasted is the cool thing to do.
- When you don’t want to go out and spend money, there will be someone who thinks that you’re a cheap bastard because you’re not wasting your hard earned cash.
Need I go on?
Look, people will always think one-way or the other. It’s time to do what you want to do.
What is it that you like to do? What is it that itches you?
So you want to become a professional bull rider? You want to become a stand-up comedian? Or some other crazy wacko things? Then do it.
Nothing matters to you unless you think it matters. And it doesn’t have to include anyone’s opinions but your own. But you do have to start today.
